After failing to score for a fourth time this season in the Premier League, Everton look set to target Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro. The Merseyside club will look to strengthen their forward line in the January transfer window, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
Gameiro has slipped down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid and his struggle for consistent game time will only get harder with the arrival of Diego Costa in January. The French striker already seems to be behind Angel Correa in Diego Simeone’s plans and wasn’t included in the squad for Atleti’s Champions League clash with Chelsea last week.
Everton are seriously struggling for goals, having scored just four in the league so far this season through seven games, and Ronald Koeman’s side find themselves in 16th place in the Premier League. Add in the fact that they are winless at the bottom of their Europa League group and it’s clear that Everton need to strengthen as soon as possible.
Koeman spend big on attacking players in the summer with the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramírez and Wayne Rooney all joining the Toffies. The squad has not gelled however and another injection of money may be needed in January to rescue Everton’s season, and Gameiro would certainly make a statement.
