Everton are doing everything they can to bolster their depth heading into the January transfer window and the second part of the Premier League campaign. And they have identified an alternative to improve their midfield depth in the Championship.
According to several reports, The Toffees are tracking highly-rated Norwich City midfielder James Maddison, a 20-year-old playmaker who has been playing in superb form in the Championship. He has had some eye-catching performances as a playmaker, and there are several Premier League sides who have asked Norwich about the youngster’s services.
The numbers certainly back Maddison up. The creative midfielder has scored four goals and laid on five assists in 17 games in all competitions for Norwich so far this season. And as if that wasn’t enough, he also won the September’s Goal of the Month Award in the Championship for a stunning strike in the win against Middlesbrough.
Everton have been alerted to Maddison’s potential and the club’s director of football, Steve Walsh, watched the playmaker in Saturday’s defeat to Bolton Wanderers. Walsh has been watching several Championship players in recent weeks, but it is believed that Maddison ranks pretty high on his list.
However, Norwich want to maintain their star midfielder for as long as they can. But considering Everton’s situation, don’t be surprised if they pursue the highly-rated playmaker during the January transfer window.
